1. Information We Collect
Kirtan Session Data
When you host a live Kirtan session, the following information is stored on our servers so your Sangat can join and follow along:
- Your name as entered in the "Host Name" field (e.g. "Bhai Harpreet Singh")
- The Shabad you selected for the session
- The current Pankti (line) you are on, updated in real time
- Session start time and end time
This data is deleted or marked inactive when you stop the session. It is not linked to any user account because Ek Sur does not require account registration.
Custom Shabads / Playlists
If you add a custom Shabad to your playlist, the Shabad text and title you enter are stored on our servers so they are available when you use the app. This data is not linked to a named account.
No Analytics or Tracking
Ek Sur does not use any third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, crash reporters, or behavioural tracking tools. We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or usage statistics beyond what is needed for session sync.
2. Microphone and Speech Recognition
- Microphone access is used solely to capture your voice when you tap the microphone icon on the search screen. The microphone is not accessed at any other time.
- Speech recognition is processed by Apple's on-device iOS speech recognition framework. Ek Sur does not send your voice audio to any external server.
- The resulting text transcript is used only to perform a local Shabad search within the app. It is not stored or transmitted.
- You can decline microphone/speech permission; typed search continues to work without these permissions.
3. Third-Party Services
Supabase
Ek Sur uses Supabase (supabase.com) as its backend service for storing and syncing live Kirtan session data and custom Shabads. Data sent to Supabase is limited to what is described in Section 1. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.
No other third-party services receive personal data from Ek Sur.
4. Data Storage and Retention
- Live session data (host name, Shabad, current line) is stored for the duration of the active session and then retained in an inactive state on our servers.
- Custom Shabad playlist entries are retained until you delete them from the app.
- No data is stored locally on your device beyond what the iOS operating system handles for app functionality (e.g. session identifiers stored in app files).
5. Children's Privacy
Ek Sur does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app does not require account registration, and the only personal information collected is a name voluntarily entered when hosting a Kirtan session.
6. No Account Required
Ek Sur does not require you to create an account, log in, or provide an email address to use any feature of the app. There is no user authentication system in the app.
7. Your Choices
- You can revoke microphone or speech recognition permission at any time in iOS Settings → Ek Sur → Privacy.
- You can delete custom Shabads from within the app.
- To request deletion of any session data associated with a host name you used, contact us at the address below.
8. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
