Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start a live Kirtan session?
On the Home screen, tap the Host card. Browse and select the Shabad you will be singing, then enter your name as the Kirtan host and tap Start Session. Your Sangat can then join from their own devices.
How does my Sangat join my session?
Anyone on the same or different network can open Ek Sur and tap the Sangat card on the Home screen (or tap Join Kirtan when a live session is shown). Your active session will appear in the list for them to join.
Voice search isn't working — what should I check?
First, make sure microphone and speech recognition permissions are enabled: go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and Speech Recognition and ensure Ek Sur is allowed. On a fresh install, you will be asked the first time you tap the microphone icon — tap Allow on both prompts, then tap the microphone again to begin searching.
Can I search in Punjabi (Gurmukhi)?
Yes. The search bar accepts both Gurmukhi script and English transliteration. You can type "Hukamee" or speak the opening words of a Shabad and the app will find the best match.
The Home screen shows a live session but Join shows nothing. What's happening?
This can happen if a previous session was not properly ended (for example, if the app was deleted and reinstalled while a session was still active). In this case the stale session will automatically be filtered out from the Join screen after 12 hours. If you need it cleared sooner, contact us at the email above.
How do I create a custom playlist?
Navigate to the Library tab, open any Shabad, and look for the option to add it to your Custom Playlist. Your saved Shabads appear in the Custom Playlist section at the top of the Library.
Does the app work offline?
The complete Gurbani library is stored on your device and can be browsed offline. Live Kirtan session features require an internet connection to sync between devices.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Ek Sur does not require any account, login, or email address. All features — including hosting and joining live sessions — work without registration.
